Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Recertificaton Review. Once complete will need to arrange to take certification exam and check off skills and scenarios.
This is a review to help prepare participants for PALS recertification courses. This class alone does not re certify a participant.
PALS Provider Course Learning Objectives
- Identify the scientific basis for PALS treatment recommendations based on the current science guidelines.
- Perform prompt, high-quality BLS, including prioritizing early chest compressions and integrating early AED use.
- Apply the BLS, Primary, and Secondary Assessment sequence for a systematic approach to the evaluation of pediatric emergencies.
- Model effective communication as a member of a high performance team.
- Recognize the impact of team dynamic on overall team performance.
- Recognize and perform early management of respiratory distress and failure in a pediatric patient.
- Demonstrate adjunct techniques to support and assist with respiratory stability of a pediatric patient in respiratory distress or failure
- Recognize and perform early interventions for the treatment of shock.
- Establish rapid vascular access to administer fluids and medications.
- Differentiate between unstable and stable patients with arrhythmia's.
- Identify rhythms for which electrical therapy is indicated.
- Demonstrate effective and safe use of manual defibrillator.
- Perform early management of cardiac arrest until termination of resuscitation or transfer of care, including immediate post-cardiac arrest care.

Your Instructor
Jill Johnson, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, CCRN, CFRN, CEN has been a critical care registered nurse for over 35 years. She maintains her clinical skills currently by working in the Emergency Department and Urgent Care Setting. Jill graduated from Midway College with her Associate Degree in Nursing and received her Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University. She graduated with honors from the University of Phoenix with a Master of Science in Nursing and from Frontier Nursing School of Midwifery and Family Practice where she received a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialty in Family Nursing. Jill completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice at Case Western Reserve University in May 2010. She is a DNP Chair for the Doctoral Nursing Program at Grand Canyon University.
Jill is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Emergency Nurses Association, and the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association. Jill is a national speaker on various topics and well known for lectures on critical care, emergency, and air medical topics. She has authored and reviewed for numerous publications.
