Basic Life Support Review for Healthcare Providers

CPR Review

This is a review to help prepare participants for BLS recertification. This class alone does not certify a participant a participant. Please email [email protected] before registering for this course.

By the end of this Basic Life Support (BLS) course, you should be able to:

  • Recognize cardiac arrest
  • Activate the emergency response system
  • Perform CPR with 1 or 2 rescuers for a victim of cardiac arrest
  • Perform CPR for an adult, child, or infant victim
  • Use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Provide rescue breathing for a victim of respiratory arrest
  • Provide emergency care for the choking victim
  • Understand how CPR and BLS will be integrated with advanced life support

The primary goal of BLS is to increase cardiac arrest survival. This course follows the American Heart Association guidelines for Basic Life Support recertification.

Jill Johnson, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, CCRN, CFRN, CEN has been a critical care registered nurse for over 30 years. She maintains her clinical skills currently by working in the Emergency Department and Urgent Care Setting. Jill graduated in from Midway College with her Associate Degree in Nursing and received her Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University. She graduated with honors from the University of Phoenix with a Master’s of Science in Nursing and from Frontier Nursing School of Midwifery and Family Practice where she received a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialty in Family Nursing. Jill completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice at Case Western Reserve University in May 2010. She is a Visiting Professor at Chamberlain College of Nursing in the Graduate Programs.


Jill is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Emergency Nurses Association, and the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association. Jill is a national speaker on various topics and well known for lectures on critical care, emergency, and air medical topics. She has authored and reviewed for numerous publications. She has been teaching certification courses for over 20 years. Participants who take her certification courses report a pass rate of greater than 94% after course completion.
