Course Description: The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) meets three times each year to review, vote upon, and approve immunization recommendations. Updates to immunization recommendations and recent outbreaks both serve as reminders of the importance of staying up to date with immunization practices. Providers have a responsibility to follow immunization guidelines and incorporate best practices when administering vaccines. This course will review ACIP and CDC recommendations and immunization practices.

This course is approved for 3 contact hours (CE) of continuing education through the Kentucky Board of Nursing and meets the Kentucky State requirements for all nurses.It will meet ANCC and AANP requirements for Advanced Practice Recertification.

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss CDC immunization recommendations and 2020 changes.
  2. Review guidelines for vaccine administration in children and adults
  3. Identify valid contraindications for commonly used vaccines.
  4. Describe the minimum spacing between doses for vaccines routinely used in the United States.
  5. Describe recommended practices for administration of vaccines.

Jill Johnson, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC

Jill Johnson, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, CCRN, CFRN, CEN has been a critical care registered nurse for over 30 years. She maintains her clinical skills currently by working in the Emergency Department and Urgent Care Setting. Jill graduated in from Midway College with her Associate Degree in Nursing and received her Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University. She graduated with honors from the University of Phoenix with a Master’s of Science in Nursing and from Frontier Nursing School of Midwifery and Family Practice where she received a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialty in Family Nursing. Jill completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice at Case Western Reserve University in May 2010. She is a Visiting Professor at Chamberlain College of Nursing in the Graduate Programs.


Jill is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Emergency Nurses Association, and the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association. Jill is a national speaker on various topics and well known for lectures on critical care, emergency, and air medical topics. She has authored and reviewed for numerous publications.
